I’m going to let its British importer explain just what makes this sensational 2020 Margaux so special:
Chateau Barraillots is one of only four small independent wineries in Margaux. Some of the vineyards were acquired by current owner Martin-Brunet's great grandfather who was a cooper at Chateau Margaux, the famous 1er Grand Cru Classé, including one from Margaux itself, a couple from neighbouring Chateau Palmer, Durfort, and Rauzan-Segla, and they tend some of the highest vines in Margaux
Produced from vineyards on gravel mounds that are some of the highest in Margaux, which any Bordeaux expert will tell you is the best terroir. If you like classic Bordeaux with that unmistakable aromas and flavours with graphite and pencil lead, this is for you. Concentrated and with excellent intensity, yet it's not a big wine - it has such finesse and perfume. We've followed Yannick Martin-Brunet of Chateau Les Barraillots for almost a decade, and I have to say the 2020 is the smartest yet.
“Smartest” is definitely a double entendre here. It’s definitely the best Barraillots yet, which is the sense they mean. But it’s also pretty clearly the “smartest” buy in all of Bordeaux.
