As much as we love the Sauvignon Blanc – and we do, especially in 2022, I love – and our entire staff loved - this deliciously rich and complex dry Chenin Blanc even more.

The importer says:

The Gibault Vineyard has been family-run for 3 generations. The vines are planted in the Loire-et-Cher village on flinty-clay soils where gun-flint was once extracted back in the Napoleon era. This flint provides a unique type of minerality to the wine, giving it an extra level of intrigue alongside classic Loire Valley Chenin Blanc's golden apple, lemon and honeysuckle characteristics. This wine is crisp, light and perfect to pair with creamy pasta dishes, fish tacos or grilled chicken.

If the Gibault Sauvignon Blanc beats most Sancerres (again, especially in 2022), this superb Chenin Blanc beats all but the very best Vouvays (I’m talking Huet Vouvrays at $50). And like the Sauvignon Blanc, I believe most wine drinkers will find this even more appealing than its far more expensive competition.

And where it’s mainly the acid balance that keeps the Sauvignon so fresh, it’s more the flinty minerality that leavens the richness here.
