The tiny Simpson’s Estate in Kent has recently thrown down the gauntlet for British bubbly.
Here, from the very warm and low-yield 2020 vintage, perhaps England’s best ever, we have their top-rated wine ever, the Canterbury Rosé Brut.
What’s more, not only does it outscore all of the recent Nyetimbers, it either beats or equals all of their famous special older vintages of 1086 Rosé (lowest US retail $229.99)!
From the winery:
This vintage was aged on its lees for twenty months prior to disgorgement and then a further 12 months under cork prior to release.
This wine is rose gold with a very fine, caressing bead. On the nose it has hints of citrus peel and rosehip with savoury patisserie nuances, illustrating both finesse and balance. On the palate there are vibrant grapefruit flavours layered with red berry fruit. The extended lees ageing has enhanced this wine’s elegant structure and its generous, lingering finish.
