From one of the only native American winemakers, and a brilliant one. Wine Enthusiast 93:
This beautiful expression of Pinot Noir from Anderson Valley emits immediate aromas of bright red cherry, raspberry and red plum complemented by earthy tones of roses, violets, damp forest floor, fresh mountain air and river-rock minerality. This depth and complexity follows through onto the palate, where fine-grained tannins create a silky texture. Elevated acidity maintains a sense of freshness from start to lingering finish.
And one of Gilman’s top American Pinots (his #1 at $40):
Derek Rholffs’ 2021 Anderson Valley bottling of pinot noir comes in this year at a very civilized 13.3 percent octane. The wine offers up a beautifully refined bouquet of cherries, pomegranate, sweet beetroot, incipient notes of cola, classic Anderson Valley fresh herb tones, a discreet framing of new oak and a lovely foundation of soil tones. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, focused and well-balanced, with a fine core of red fruit, good soil undertow, moderate tannins and a long, complex and tangy finish. Lovely juice that is approachable out of the blocks, but still fairly primary in personality and really deserves at least four or five years in the cellar to blossom completely. This is a stunning value!
