From one of the great estates in the top Chianti sub-zone of Radda.
Decanter 96:
A fragrant, expressive nose with notes of iris, dark berries, tea leaf and a whiff of iodine preludes a palate with firm fibre and just the right touch of severity in the long savoury finish. This is a vibrant, thoroughbred Chianti Classico with a precise sense of place from an excellent vintage. Drinking 2024-2030
And top marks from Jancis Robinson:
Deep ruby. Herbal rather than full-on fruity on the nose, but perhaps it is just slow to open up. The palate is strikingly different, with mouth-filling, tangy, polished cherry fruit and gravelly tannins. Fantastic length and focus.
And Dunnuck:
A deep magenta hue, the 2021 Chianti Classico is expressive with vibrant aromas of red cherry liqueur, fresh rosemary, pine, and graphite. Approachable and supple with ripe, pure fruit, balanced, fresh acidity, fine tannins, and a juicy mid-palate, it would disappear quickly in my home, and while I love it now, it will do well over the coming 6-7 years.
And Michael Godel:
Darker fruit adoration for the vintage owning to Castello di Radda’s south-central location within the UGA and the accumulation is duly noted. Levels of richness and yet this singsong quality that creates waves of fruit in and out of mild structure.
A Chianti that’s both “serious” and undeniably classic, yet also really delicious.
There are very few red wines more versatile or rewarding than this.
