The rarest of La Giaretta’s treasures – and the one for which they go through the most effort and expense.
Only one other store even has this rarity, and we are getting the importer’s last 30 500-ml bottles. You might compare this to a vintage Port, except its richness, sweetness and concentration comes entirely from extended drying of the grapes (and the stricter selection of the grapes), rather than added brandy…so compared to a Port, this is even more concentrated and complex. Not to mention a much better value.
This wine is left to dry before pressing even longer than the Amarones, and becomes even richer, more concentrated and intense. If the Amarones are “wines of meditation,” this one can serve as a (not too sweet) dessert wine…or dessert itself.
“Recioto,” according to the winery, comes from the “ears” of the grape bunch – the few best exposed and ripest grapes. And they’re one of the few producers left to still make their recioto (in tiny amounts) from only these very carefully selected grapes.
