Just an extraordinarily high-class and authentic Chianti, at an incredible price for what it is.
The Wine Review Online rates this 2021 Vignamaggio’s best ever (including their $80 bottlings), at $45, saying:
The location of the Sangiovese vineyards used for Vignamaggio’s Prenzano sit at the estate’s highest elevation in Greve, which helps explain the vivacity of this gorgeous 2021 Chianti Classico. Bright and fresh, this Chianti Classico delivers plenty of red cherry-like fruitiness accompanied by good depth, without any heaviness. A delight to drink now, it would be a good choice for a pasta with a sausage and broccoli sauce.
An does Decanter:
A decisive scent and texture, and precise varietal background with notes of red fruits followed by spicy and balsamic nuances. Vibrant, juicy and sapid in the mouth, with fine tannins, inviting tension and succulent drinkability.
And also Master Sommelier John Szabo – who also rates it a top, 5-star value:
2021 is a terrific vintage for this wine I have to say, a notch above the very good 2020, a sangiovese of typically pure red colour and perfectly ripened fruit, with flavours mostly in the classic red cherry spectrum, pure and fresh, with savoury herbs in the Tuscan idiom. Tannins and acids are comfortably balanced and harmonious, the texture silky-firm with no rough edges, a pleasant wash of flavour that lingers impressively. Authentic and traditional without rusticity. Drinking nicely now, but will hold into the early 2030s. A fine expression, and excellent value.
Also rated outstanding, and their best vintage ever, by Falstaff, Vinous, Suckling and Winecritics.com…in other words, everyone.
Just a brilliant, top-class Chianti Classico, at less than half its normal price now by the case.
