Decanter loved this, too, saying:
Beautiful aromas of nutmeg, black pepper and tart black fruits. Harmonious and elegant, with round tannins.
Just a classic, high-quality Ribera red. And here their British importer, who sold out of this at a much higher price, explains why:
Aged in both oak barrel and bottle, this structured red made from 100% Tempranillo – locally called Tinto Fino – is made from hand-harvested grapes plucked from high-altitude vineyards. Expect intense but balanced aromas with hints of red fruit and spice. Crack it open and you’ll understand why Ribera del Duero is said to produce some of Spain’s most complex reds.
And of course, here’s the Wine Enthusiast 93-point review for the 2021:
This dark-garnet-colored wine has aromas of black cherry, anisette and dried thyme. Bold tannins are kept in check by a sense of brightness and Mission fig, pomegranate, mocha, sage-leaf and licorice-root flavors. Zesty fruit flavors linger on the tongue and gums.
Maybe our best European red wine under $20…as well as the best $15 wine in the store.
Of course, it’s only $15 here, and appears to have sold out at $22 or more everywhere else.
