For years we’ve sold all we could get of what importer Peter Weygandt believes are his best red Burgundy values – and we believe are the best red Burgundy values period.
But we’ve never been able to get Collotte’s supreme value…until now.
His 2023 Bourgogne Rouge Noble Souche (or “noble stock”) is 80% Marsannay (the village just north of Gevrey-Chambertin, and quite similar in style), from the superb Champ Forey vineyard and planted in 1947. But it’s only labelled a Bourgogne Rouge because the other 20% is from old vines in Chambolle-Musigny!
The result is a rare red Burgundy of just wonderful sumptuousness, concentration and silky-smooth richness. The Burgundy Report says:
Depth of aroma – to match the depth of colour – pure and floral too – that’s lovely. Hmm – what a lovely Bourgogne – not a wine of impact, rather one of melting, fluid, delicious flavour – just a beautiful Bourgogne – “we really want a Bourgogne that’s easy to approach and has lovely pinot fruit”, says Collotte. They have certainly achieved it here!
And all of this for only $30!
