We just got in the last of our allocation of the top wine and really the calling card of our most popular Burgundy producer by far: the spectacular 2023 Andre Bonhomme Viré-Clessé VV, made mainly from 100-year-old vines. Famously, though this is extraordinarily delicious and impressive already, it will age for decades. Even more famously, it’s the darling of Michelin star sommeliers in France and the UK. (Which is why we can only get 28 cases now, versus the hundred or so we got a few years ago.)
And we are the only US store to now have it. Though the 2022 vintage sells locally for $45, and the regular (not old vine) Viré-Clessé is selling elsewhere for over $40.
This creamy-rich and tremendous old vine cuvee is like their Meursault “Charmes.” Though I think it’s even richer than most Meursault “Charmes” today.
Especially in this supremely rich, opulent and impressive vintage of 2023.
Indeed, one top Burgundy producer calls 2023 the vintage of a generation for the whites, comparing them to the 2019 reds – as they are both hugely opulent and brilliantly precise.
