Most Chablis experts regard Montee de Tonnerre as the top premier cru of Chablis, and the one most capable of challenging the grand crus for substance and sheer quality. The sub-section of Montee de Tonnerre closest to the grand crus (facing Blanchots actually, and just a stone’s throw from it) is the Cote de Brechain.
This cooler exposure and proximity to Blanchots gives this Cote de Brechain an especially intense and concentrated, essence-of-Chablis character.
The Testut family own the largest holding in this prime vineyard (indeed most of it), and have the added luxury of 55-year-old vines here. From it they make a quintessential (no oak) Chablis whose value is simply incredible.
