Jacquart s stunningly rich, complex and layered Mosaique may be the best kept secret in Champagne. Their winemaker, Florian Eznack, who came from Veuve Clicquot, was recently named the World s Best Woman Winemaker by a Japanese publication.
Not only does this come from some of the finest vineyards in Champagne; it also includes a very high 35% reserve wines from older top vintages. And it spends over 3 years on its lees, before being bottled with a modest 9 g/l dosage (versus 15 for many big houses).
The result is a fabulous Champagne. The Wine Spectator rates it 92 points:
"Rich, featuring an undertow of smoke and roasted nut mixing with flavors of black currant, lemon meringue pie and ground ginger, with a hint of honeycomb. Refined in texture and framed by well-knit acidity, with a lasting, mineral-tinged finish."
