The Lot #71, with 94 points from the Wine Advocate, was (and is) quite wonderful. But this new release just blows it away.
Like the Lot #71, it combines old-vine Zinfandel from the great 2019 vintage with Syrah and Petite Sirah from 2018 and 2017, with just a touch of Grenache and Barbera. But it seems to have a bit more of everything: fruit, oak, structure, concentration and freshness.
For decades, this has been perhaps California’s most consistently rewarding old-vine red value, but with the Lot #71 and especially Lot #72, Marietta has really upped its game.
