A simply brilliant Volnay. Confuron says:
Bright ruby colour. Delicate fragrances of roses mixed with intense aromas of ripe red berries on a hint of liquorice. Well-balanced and complex. Supple and elegant texture.
And from CellarTracker (translated from Italian):
Waiting for at least a couple of hours in the glass or decanted opens up, and the nose receives an excellent mix of deep and very pleasant aromas of red and black berries, spices and flowers, with tertiary notes of wood, leather and vanilla to close. On the palate, powerful but elegant tannins with well-measured and present acidity, mineral and savoury. Good body with excellent shoulder, decisive, warm, austere but with finesse. Very persistent.
We just don’t see red Burgundies from top producers and pedigreed vineyards very often…and especially in the terrific 2018 vintage…just now coming into its own.
Just an archetypal Volnay: along with Chambolle-Musigny, the most “beautiful” wine of Burgundy.
