The French Guise Hachette calls this “a remarkable wine,” giving it 4.5/5 stars – and again, rating it above almost every top Chateauneuf of the vintage. They call it:
Supple and velvety, supported by finely extracted round tannins, the palate restores a tasty fruitiness, which stretches into a fresh finish with distinct accents of liquorice.
The BBC agrees:
Rich, warming Rhône red from a century-old family estate. Velvety, ripe, with luscious black fruit.
I actually had this last night with some really wonderful Copper River Salmon. And though I normally would have chosen a Pinot Noir, this had the purity and the sheer beauty to match it perfectly. (Though the salmon was so good that for once I ate even faster than I drank!)
We are huge fans of Domaine Martin and their incredible southern Rhone values, but this one may be the most delicious yet. And it’s certainly the best bargain…especially at only $16.99.
